As the acceleration of urbanization as well as the city construction, protection and renewal of history district has become an urgent subject, it is more and more concerned. History district contains integrated historical scenery, abundant culture connotation, and high historical and culture value. It also represents the feature of history and bears the life of modern people in such territories. Protection and renewal of the history district should combine the protection and usage, in order to achieve a continuable development. As an important part of public space of a city, commercial pedestrian street contains connotation of leisure and culture, and plays the role of adjustment of city space, besides its traffic and commercial function. Commercial pedestrian street has been widely used in the protection and renewal of history district. This article studies the"pedestrianization"of history district, regarding the phenomenon mentioned above."Pedestrianization"of history district is based on protection of historical culture. It turns history district into an opened public fortune, makes use of the function of history district, and animates the historical culture in modern city life."Pedestrianization"is a systematic and holistic concept. It provides more public space in a city, optimizes the environment of a city, and improves the city life. Improvement of the city life by the concept of"pedestrianization"means not only the construction of the pedestrian street, but also the development of city culture as well as history. Combing them means qualitative and effective"pedestrianzation".The research of"pedestrianization"of history district means the integration of protection and renewal of history district as well as the improvement of city life. It also inherits the historical culture of a city, improves the environment of a city, and makes the history district in a continuable development. This article starts from the"pedestrianization"of history district, analyzes the development of history district and commercial pedestrian street, looks for their proper coincidence, and studies the possibility of"pedestrianization"of history district."Pedestrianization"of history district reflects the integration of historical culture of cities as well as the development of modern economy. Three cases studied in this article are particularly chose from Zhejiang Province, who has abundant of historical culture and good city construction. Qinghe St. Hangzhou, North Bund St. Ningbo, and Changqiao St. Shaoxing are taken as the typical cases of"pedestrianization". The article deeply analyzes problems and relative policies in the process of"pedestrianization"in these three districts, and concludes the blueprint of"pedestrianization"of history district.
