Planar linkage mechanisms are used widely, especially crack-and-rocker mechanisms, crank-slider mechanisms and six-bar linkages, which can be regarded as the combination of the two former ones. The transmission angle reflects the property of transmission. As the angel becoming bigger, the transmission gets better property .This angle changes all the time during the transmission.There is not a clear requirement about property of transmission both in traditional design and in CAD. Length of bars have various combination when realizing the same coefficient of travel speed variation(K ), oscillating angle of the rocker (? ) (or stroke (H )).There must be a combination with the maximum of the minimum transmission angle. A novel method for realizing the optimal transmission is presented in this paper. The related parameters including K, ? (or stroke H), maxγmin, length of bars and offset distance e, make the optimal combination design. The aim of the optimal transmission angle design is realized by the method of reducing constrains gradually and optimizing respectively.CAD of planar linkage mechanisms can realize the integration, parameter and visualization of structure design , motion analysis and kinematical simulation. With the aid of software VC++6.0, a vividly visual and alternating system is proposed. It realizes optimal transmission angle design of planar linkage mechanisms directly and exactly. All linkages can be shown animated.The main functions of this system are as follows:1. Based on VC++6.0, the diagram of the optimal transmission is drawn. According to the given requirements, the optimal transmission parameters can be achieved by directly choosing in the diagram. The method can improve the property of transmission greatly and takes less time to design.2. According to the working demand, users can choose style of machine, and gain the length of each bars by inputting the data through keyboard. And then the minimum transmission angle can be checked. It can draw displacement, speed and acceleration curve of important points and analyze them, and compare between them. At the same time, the planar linkage mechanism simulated. The obtained parameters are also displayed.
