The automotive transmission is used for changing the torque and rotatespeed which come from engine and pass to driving wheel. It provides differentdriving force and speed for the car under different running circumstances likestarting, grade climbing, turning, accelerating and so on. It can also makethe engine work in best condition. In order to take full advantage of the powerof the engine, improve fuel economy and emission of the automotive, the idealautomotive transmission should have continuously variable speed ratio and thespeed ratio should be optimized with the real time controll. In this papera power split continuously variable transmission is concerned which has therelatively ideal characteristic.The research work of this paper primarily includes:1)General concept design is done. Based on the idea of power split, severalfeasible general design concepts of transmission are presented. The finalconcept and the basic design parameters are established based on the analysisand comparison of these concepts.2)Modeling and simulation is done. The mathematical model of vehicle isestablished.,matching between transmission and engine is analyzed andsimulation is carried out for fuel economy and dynamic performance of the earequipped with the power split continuously variable transmission.3)One of the key parts for the power-split continuously variableTransmission, the one-way clutch is designed. To improve the main invalidationform of the one-way clutch, a new kind of non-contact sprag one-way clutchis presented. It can well improve the main shortage of the one-way clutch.It can also well meet the demand of braking on the sun gear for the Power-splitContinuously Variable Transmission.4)One of the key parts for the power-split continuously variabletransmission, the shifting mechanism is designed. Based on the shiftingprocess of the transmission, one feasible shifting mechanism is designed. Alsothe position sensors are disposed and theories analysis of the synchronizerwhich can influence shifting performance is done.5)Design and 3D modeling of transmission: The main parts of thetransmission like planetary system are designed and the 3D model of the transmission is established with the virtual prototype technology.The power-split continuously variable transmission for economic car isnot only a new mechatronics product but also a critical component to improvethe performance of cars. The research work of this paper provides goodfoundation for following research work.
