The motive of this dissertation lies in an attempt to look for a way of continuing the history of wood architecture. The first part of this thesis discusses the aspects of the environmental protection. It draws attention to the comparisons between wood and other material in terms of the architectural structures. Shedding the light on the distinctive nature which conforms to the ecology rules and further discerning the drawbacks which retain the dilemmas that confront the wood structures, the dissertation endeavors to lead out the becoming feasibility that wood architectures possess.Acquainting with the glued-laminated timber which can be further exploited in building wood architectures, in the second part of this thesis, the history and practice of this fairly newly devised material, which is introduced in for only few decades, are brought in to reassess the prospects of the wood architectures after modernization. The study dwells on the utilization of this material which associates with the recently developed approach of joint techniques which provide for material comforts.Relying on the recent progressed technologies attributed to architectural practices, the innovated styles of artistic achievements engaged with contemporary aesthetics, especially intermingled with location-wise perspectives, may lead to a new arena of wood architectures.The thesis is categorized into two parts:A. Literature review1. Reviewing the principles and approaches of now existed wood architectures and analyzing the relationship between the structures, styles and association with environment protection.2. Studying on the international periodicals and research reports and examining the newly approached techniques and information related to wooden truss.B. Survey and analysis on status quo1. Surveying on wood architectures, e.g. Asheboro Churhc in North Carolina, residencial wood houses, and wood bridge in Old Salem, Pratt Institute stadium in New York.2. Interviewing with the people who dwell in wood architectures in Asheboro, which include the mayor, architects, interior designer, policeman, writer, housekeeper, etc. The conversation emphasize on the different point of views regarding utilizing, preserving, and creating wood architectures.3. Interviewing with craftsmen who specialized in renovating archaic architectures, discussing the joining techniques of wood structures.
