Among the problems of the expressway especially which is in the west mountainous areas, the stability of the high embankment slope is always a general one in the constructing of the high-grade roads. As to high fill embankment, many factors such as the bad geology conditions, not close-grained filling as well as the incorrect protecting technologies would cause the loss of stability of embankment slope and consequently lead to cracks in the structure of the road surface.In this paper, take the ninth mark-segment speedway from Zhengzhou City to Shaolin Temple for example, the basic geology condition of the coast is analyzed from the aspect of geology background and landform of the high embankment firstly. Then taking the stability analysis of the coast as an emphasis, the reason and mechanism of crack in the high embankment are investigated. On the basis of sufficient analysis of the soil experimental data, the calculational parameters in stability analysis of the slope are demonstrated. According to the situation of the slope, smooth arc-like model and Bishop numerical method for the stable checking computations of the slope are set up. In the meantime, the factors influencing the stability of slope are initially made clearly, the characteristics of the chief destroy forms of the high fill embankment are obtained, the destroy mechanisms of the slope exposed, and the deformation and destroy rule of the typical high fill embankment are summarized.According to the worldwide measures in controlling coast and aiming at the characteristic of the expressway from Zhengzhou City to Shaolin Temple, it is analyzed and demonstrated that some measures should be taken to reinforce and control in order to guarantee that the expressway could be constructed successfully and operated securely in this paper. Then some schemes about reinforcing side-slope and mending the crack of the road surface are established including reducing the loads, building resisting slip and retaining walls, protecting by the combination of the anchor cable frame and girder, reinforcing by soil nail and anchor perch and so on. And these schemes are applied in the construction of expressway.The practical engineering detection indicates that the application of this study can solve the engineering problem well, ensure the engineering quality and provide substantial foundation for the expressway construction in the similar condition.
