According to the situation and development requirements of automobile brake materials, based on consulting and analyzing lots of internal and overseas documents about friction materials, the paper takes auto disk brake-shoes of self-development as research object, and discusses the influence of content of phenol formaldehyde resin(PF-resin) ,steel fiber and ceramic fiber on the performances by research of theory and test. The research can provide theoretical and experimental reference for further study.The following have been systematically and emphatically investigated.First, the formula of different content was designed, including different content of PF-resin, nitrile rubber mixed with PF-resin, metallic (steel and copper) fiber and ceramic fiber, and the physical, mechanical and frictional performances were tested , also the influence of resin and fiber were studied, then the better content of several component was got. At the same time, the mechanism of the friction and wear was studied by SEM, showing that grain-abrasion is the main type of abrasion types when low temperature and adhesion-abrasion is the main type of abrasion types when high temperature.Second, orthogonal test was adopted to formula, making variance analysis and formula optimization based on the constant speed test results, proving that the formula after optimization has rather good performance of friction and wear, so it can meet the requirements of manufacture.Third, the mechanism of heat produced during braking and the second distribution of braking friction heat have been studied. The temperature on the contact surfaces of friction brake were calculated and analyzed as well as the temperature field of transient state on the brake plates using finite element method.The results has shown that the friction coefficient of the friction material developed is rather stable, anti-fade performance is rather good, and also the wear ratio is not big. Thinking that the cost is low, this kind friction material has some advantage.
