Pulse detonation engine (PDE) is a new concept of propulsive engine, which utilizes high temperature and pressure gas produced by intermittent or pulsed detonation wave to generate thrust. PDE has many desirable advantages, including high thermodynamic cycle efficiency, low specific fuel consumption, high thrust/weight and specific impulse, simple configuration, and will become one of the propulsive devices of aviation and spaceflight aircraft in 21th century.This paper establishes two PDE models on the base of analyzing radical principle of detonation wave, formation characteristics and propagation mechanism as well as performance of detonation wave, and working principle and cycle of pulse detonation engine. Then give a 2D axisymmetrical numerical simulation of internal flow field of the detonation chamber. Regarding to model 1, firstly analyzes and studies principle as well as formation of detonation wave, the internal flow field structure of the detonation chamber. Then study the flow field structure near the outdoor of the detonation chamber, backflow process of the dilatation wave after detonation wave reach the outdoor and the change of thrust wall pressure and so on. As to model 2, the influences that different initial condition have on the formation process, the characteristic parameter of detonation wave, and thrust wall pressure are summarized, on the base of analyzing several cases of different initial pressure and temperature as well as ignition energy. In addition, in analyzing several cases by different mesh and time step, give a conclusion about the influences that the mesh step have on the characteristic parameter of detonation wave, and study the increase range of the characteristic parameter of detonation wave, as a result of different time step in several initial pressure.
