This paper launches the work about grain combustion simulation system design based on solid modeling, and burning area computation based on grids.Firstly, based on already used ways of burning area simulation and features of UG system, this paper puts forward new methods to create and analyze grain using UG 3D modeling, UG/Open API, UG/Open MenuScript and UG/Open UIStyler modules. The completed software can generate star grain, wheel grain, slot-hole grain according to user's input parameters, and simulate the burning process, display and store the data and curves demonstrating the relation of burning area to grain process interval. This simulation system provides an automatic way for grain designers to research the 3D grain, makes the designing convenient and efficient.Secondly, this paper attempts to solve burning area's computation by grids. It utilizes simple grid, initialized intensive grid and dynamic intensive grid to compute cylindrical bore grain and cone-hole grain, then compares the results by the three ways of grid and accurate analytic results.
