The purpose of this paper is to make the same transmission adapt various strength demands of different automobile, to optimize the running-in specifications of transmission gears to increase the fatigue strength. The strengthening under low amplitude load of transmission gears for automobile was investigated experimentally. The strengthening under low amplitude load was combined with the running-in of transmission gears, and the running-in specifications of transmission gears were constituted with reason to obtain the best strengthening effect.The S-N curve and fatigue strength of the cylindrical gear were acquired by fatigue analysis and bench test. The characteristics of strengthening under low amplitude load for cylindrical gears were acquired by qualitative test, quantitative test and numeric test. The best strengthening load in origin running-in cycles was investigated and validated by test without increased cost.The experimental results showed that the fatigue life of transmission gears was improved 39% in new running-in specifications. The investigation of best running-in specifications of transmission gears could be increased fatigue life of transmission gears, and also offered technical support for further constituting the criterion of the running-in specifications for automobile transmission gears. The results of the research not only brought economic benefit to corporations, but also broke a new path of weight reducing designing.
