The traffic accidents,made by the heavy-duty lorry and due to breaking failure, happen from time to time on the long downhill path of mountainous expressway.At present,the truck escape ramp(TER)existing in our country ensure the security of a large number of vehicles and drivers and passengers,however,still many vehicles become damaged and scrapped when they drive into the truck escape ramp,and even there are casualty accidents happening to drivers and passengers.Therefore,it is of far reaching importance for the study of the design of truck escape ramp and corresponding safety measures of the long downhill path,so as to utmostly exert the danger avoidance function of truck escape ramp,and satisfactorily solve the safety problem of the mountainous expressway,improve the safety operational level of the long and steep downhill path.Introducing the domestic and overseas' serious traffic accidents situation,this paper have roundly analyzed and systematically researched the impacted factors of traffic safety and the causes of traffic accidents on the long and steep downhill path, and included that braking failure is one the main threats for traffic accidents. According to the reasons of accidents,it proposed that setting up truck escape ramp is the important measurement to solve traffic accident on the long and steep downhill path in mountainous expressway.In the course of analyzing automobile impulse on the long and steep downhill path,with accumulation of time,the larger of automobile impulse is,the worse the stability of the vehicle is.Putting forward that vehicle should sail into truck escape ramp as soon as the vehicle applies the brake to lose efficiency.At the same time,the formula of calculating the length of the breaking slope bed of TER and automobile impulse is brought forward,expressing directly the relationship between the two factors.In the establishment of TER,the preliminary study were carried on the location, length,longitudinal section and cross section,terminal,materials,service lane as well as traffic engineering measures and other establishments of TER.Proposed the calculating formula of the length of approach road and the total length of TER,and corresponding measures to solve the safety problem on the long and steep downhill path in mountain expressway from the aspects of technical measure,the traffic engineering measure and the management measure and so on in order to guarantee the operation safety of vehicles.Finally,take the typical vehicle of Dong-feng EQ1108G6D16 for example,this paper have analyzed the design of TER in Xiao-mo highway K80+135 and obtained that the effective length of braking slope bed basically can meet the need of the vehicles entering the TER as soon as the vehicles control namely and stopped safely, further confirmed that the formula of calculating the length of the breaking slope bed is reasonable.
