Diesel engine as a major power machinery, widely used in various industries, plays a very important role in production and daily life. Diesel engine has complex structure, poor working conditions, diverse fault modes and causes. The diagnosis of diesel engine fault can effectively improve its operating efficiency.Fault tree analysis is a suitable way for large complex systems'fault analysis, which has been widely applied to fault diagnosis of various complex systems and strategic analysis of maintenance. Fuzzy theory has been widely used in fault analysis of fuzzy relationship between the phenomenon and the reasons, and to deal with uncertain problems. In this paper, fault tree analysis of diesel engine common faults shows the common causes of the fault and impact analysis. By combining knowledge of fuzzy theory, this paper establishes fuzzy fault tree to solve the problems which traditional fault tree are difficult to resolve, such as the relevant fault and fault cross, the probability of basic event is difficult to obtain, and so on.Further, for the problem of insufficient data samples in large parts of the system fault, this paper proposes a method combined historical data and Monte Carlo simulation, which is used in analysis of probability of basic events and applied to the engine start-up difficulties which is the most common phenomenon in diesel engine. It is helpful for troubleshooting and reducing maintenance costs, which has a certain value.
