In recent years, large aperture optical system plays quite an important role in the high-tech fields including astronomical optics, space optics, inertial confinement fusion (ICF), the detecting and recognizing of space target. However, the problems of the wavefront sensing about large aperture optical system haven't been totally solved yet because of equipment expenses and long manufacturing periods. In order to test the large aperture elements in optical system with cheaper costs and higher resolution, more and more attentions are paid into the wavefront sensing of large aperture optical systems. The pentaprism scanning method is studied to test wavefront of large aperture optical system, which is useful to expand the measuring range, to keep high spatial resolution and to reduce cost etc.The laser beam can be deflected by the pentaprism which has the advantage of turning the light by 90 degree. The pentaprism scans the wavefront to be tested along the path perpendicular to the transmitting direction of the wavefront .The data can be acquired by A/D card, the centroid coordinates can be read into computer. Matlab program is written and to process and display the real-time retrieved wavefront diagram. Meanwhile, the error sources are analyzed and discussed in detail, including the slideway error, the manufacturing error of pentaprism, position sensitive device (PSD) error and environmental disturbance. A method to separate the errors is presented to improve the performance of pentaprism scanning setup for large aperture collimated wavefront sensing.
