Bridge remote monitoring is a method of achieving real-time remote monitoring of bridge in wired or wireless mode of communication. It has changed the traditional way of monitoring by manpower and worked more automatically. Thus, it highly increases the response speed when the structural breakage is happened and also saves human resources to a large extent . Added together; It is a hot research field at home and abroad.By the development of the Internet technology, using SMS Gateway platform in Internet to achieve the long-distance data transmission is increasingly becoming a very convenient means of information transmitting, which sends real-time data collection to achieve the real-time monitoring of remote bridge through the short message. A complete monitoring system consists of data collection, data transfer and data processing. The responsible of the data collection is collecting the state information on the sensor and transmitting these information in accordance with a format to the IPC; The data transfer transmits the data from sensors in accordance with the CMPP agreement through the mobile communication network to the far-end control center server; The data processing completes the final data summary and the analysis, and makes the corresponding response to the decision-making by system database with the corresponding data analysis software.Based on the detailed analysis of the bridge structure and characteristics and in light of this field of research and development status, this paper gives a full hardware and software system and the design process and respectively carries out a detailed description of operation procedures on the server side and client. It also gives the program running results under the experimental condition, analyzes the possible reasons for the problem and improves the way. The main work of this system includes: (1) Detailed analysis of the structural characteristics of the bridge. Based on the analysis of the main factors which impact the safety of bridges, it proposes design ideas, system components and the primary problems, which we should focus on, to achieve bridge remote monitoring system using mobile communication network; (2) Using Visual C # language to complete the application design in the client and server-side of system, including serial communication programming of data acquisition parts and long-distance data transmission program design in Client/Server mode.Bridges have a huge spatial structure and many constrained points. The deformation of structures is complex. It involves knowledge in multi-disciplinary and many fields such as architecture, mechanics, communications, data fusion, modal identification and error analysis for its health monitoring. Thus, the monitoring has great difficulty and is involved in multi-disciplinary, multi-front areas of science. Many of the issues in this field are worthy of being studied and explored for us.
