Reducing power loss of distribution system is always an objective for electrical power supply company. With the development of city construction, electrical distribution network expands and becomes more complicated; power load is becoming larger and larger, power users demand more on power quality and the stability of supply. It becomes difficult to keep the distribution system running safely and economically by manual dispatching. Distribution network reconfiguration is an effective way of reducing power loss, and we can also balance load, avoid over load and increase voltage quality by this method.Distribution network reconfiguration is a complicated combinatorial, nonlinear and multi-objective optimization problem. The problem is one of the Non-Polynomial (NP) hard problems in power system. This paper presents a new artificial intelligence algorithm based on binary particle swarm optimization algorithm and binary differential evolution algorithm to solve network reconfiguration of distribution system for power loss reduction. The identification of radial network, the calculation of power flow of distribution network, the convergence property of the new algorithm is also adopted in this paper for deep research. The algorithm is applied to the network reconfiguration of IEEE16, IEEE33 and PG&E 69 distribution system. The results prove that the new algorithm has much advantage on getting the best solution, convergence rate, precision of calculation and robustness. The algorithm can be used to real distribution system dispatching effectively.Doing well on power loss management and data statistic is an important job in electrical power supply company. 10kV distribution system power loss rate fluctuates unconventionally because of the unmatched between supply and distribution and ring connected lines sometimes supply loads not of its own when some switches are repaired. This paper shows the real status of 10kV distribution system power loss management and. brings forward some methods to solve these problems. These methods are used to real power loss management in local power supply bureau.
