The membrane and electrode assembly, the core component of fuel cell, is important to the performance of the fuel cell. As one method to produce the membrane and electrode assembly, the spraying method is not only achieved good results, but also can be used in the preparation of the high-precision coatings. The spraying method has a great effect on the coating performance. In order to avoid the waste of the sprayed material and get better coating quality, the air-assisted spraying method was chosen through the comparisons of the current commonly used methods and the test results. The spraying system, including a two-way mobile platform, mixing devices, nozzle components and so on, was designed. Parts of the system were checked and improved through a combination of testing and computing.A computer model of the nozzle was established using FLUENT- A CFD software. The pressure and velocity fields of the nozzle internal, the velocity field and the phase distribution were all simulated and were compared to the test results. The nozzle internal fields, including the liquid and gas fields, were simulated. The velocity and pressure fields were performed using the mixture model. The nozzle external fields were performed also. Liquid and gas input and interact outside the nozzle at the same time, so the mixture model was chosen to simulate the spray and atomizing process. Through the comparison of the test results of the numerical simulation, the assisted air spray method could achieve the goal. Further research for the engineering application has advanced by the dissertation author.
