Yuanye,a book of the Ming Dynasty,is China's first monumental work about traditional gardening,which has,so far,more than 300-year history,including a detailed and systematic description of abundant gardening practices and design thinking.In this paper,"leisure culture" is selected as a perspective to make further exploration and research on the essential chapter of the "Yuanye",which is known as "Chapter of Site Selection".First of all,after defining the basic concept associated with "leisure",this article interprets and analyses the content of "leisure culture" in "Yuanye:Chapter of Site Selection";Secondly,the article explores the further meanings of "Yuanye:Chapter of Site Selection" based on "Setting For Leisure" in the late Ming society,there're four techniques of "Design For Leisure" embodied in the "Hide Seeking","Interest Raising","View of Painting" and "Integrity of Emotion"; Finally,it is applied into contemporary landscape of leisure and guides the design practice so as to enhance the feeling of leisure.This article is not only open the research perspective on Yuanye,but also written as a major enlightenment and guidance for our sequacious contemporary leisure landscape design.
