Carbon fiber reinforced plastic sheet (which is briefed CFRP) is an ideal new composite material because of its lightweight, high strength and corrosion resistance. The method of strengthening reinforced concrete structure with CFRP develops quickly in the field of civil engineering. At first, several eccentrically loading reinforced concrete columns strengthened with CFRP are studied under static loading. The behaviors of the experimental members were investigated, which include the ultimate strength, the lateral deflection and the sectional strain distribution of concrete columns and so on the strains in the CFRP sheet. It was found that, the ultimate strength of concrete columns is enhanced and the ductility of concrete columns improved after being strengthened with CFRP.Based on the experimental data, a formula is proposed for calculating the ultimate strength for concrete columns strengthened with CFRP under eccentrically loading. At last, the mechanical behavior about reinforced concrete columns strengthened with CFRP under eccentrically loading is studied by using finite element program of ANSYS. The results can be a theoretical reference for the engineering application. The existed problems and the research directions about CFRP were simply discussed also.
