Saline soil is a special soil, possessing three features of swelling caused by the crystallize of sodium sulfate, dissolve collapse and corrosion. The hazard that saline soil brings to construction and management of highway is very serious. So it is very important for the highway construction and the operation to study the project characteristic of saline soil.Supported by the project of "The technique research of highway construction in the area covered by saline soil" which is part of the western communication constructions, this paper reports the results of study on the Engineering property of saline soil of national highway 314 from Heshuo to Kuerle by means of indoor experiments. Through regular laboratory experiments, the physics mechanics property of saline soil along the national road Line 314 from Hesuo to Kuerle got systematic research, and the distribution condition of saline soil, salinize degree, boundary moisture content and compaction characteristic are obtained. Adopted openly freezing and thawing circulation test, the research on the salt expansion characteristic of the natural saline soil in this area are carried on, under changing environmental parameter conditions such as water content, density, temperature. Through the shearing strength parameter test, the influence of freezing and thawing circulation periodic to shearing strength is researched. Adopt centrifuge test system in lab, the dissolve collapse characteristic of saline soil are researched under condition of the natural salt content and different kinds of salt content. All of above research offered the reference basis for the actual project.
