In future regional wars, the navy should have the ability to take combined operation with the land and air forces. The naval gun shall be responsible for the fire support of the ground and attacking coastal defense works, stationary or moving armored forces, water surface ships, exposed personnel and incoming missiles of the enemy. According to these military requirements and the present equipment situation of the medium and large caliber naval gun of our navy, the R&D of semi-armor piercing shell base fuze is required for actual operation and this kind of ammunition should be able to deal with various kinds of targets (soft or hard) and realize best burst point control. This paper discusses the development situation of the base fuze both at home and abroad. According to the operational performance requirements of semi-armor piercing shell for large caliber naval gun of the ship, based on the design method and the relevant criteria of the fuze, a brand new general design plan of semi-armor piercing shell base fuze equipped for large caliber ammunition of naval warship is offered and design calculation and the computer simulation are made. After testifying in laboratory and the proofing ground, it can not only effectively penetrate 10-30mm steel plate and the 0.5-1m reinforced concrete and achieve max damage effect, but also can form a certain height of water column and a large enough crater on water surface and hard ground while battling.
