Railway transportation is the key component of our national economy and backbone of the transportation system. With the urgent requirement of the society and economic and the rapid development of the railway techniques in the world, Ministry of Railways presents strategic thought of great leap forward development, standing on high start point and high criterion, persisting in self -determination innovation, enhancing modernization of railway.Communication-based train control (CBTC) system is an advanced train control system, the trend of train control system development, and sign of the modernization of railway. However wireless communication is easy to be interfered by many factors, which influenced the safety of railway. Thus, the research on improve reliability of wireless transmission in CBTC system is of great importance.First of all, the thesis analyses and study the radio environment of CBTC systems, discusses the main factors which influence the reliability of transmission and the particularity of CBTC system, mentions the main techniques to improve reliability. Next, the thesis studies the outline, characteristic, encoding and decoding algorithms of the channel coding in CBTC system, including convolutional codes, cyclic codes, Fire codes and CRC codes. In chapter 4, the thesis studies the design of the encoder and decoder of convolutional codes based on FPGA chip, discusses some key problems in the implement of the encoder and decoder, finishes the implementation on Altera Cyclone III development board, and pass hardware test.
