In these years, linear transformer driver (LTD) is a hot topic in the fields of pulse power technique, and it is selected as the main technique in the design of some huge pulse power device. LTD technique will be the base of the pulse power technique in the future for its fast development. Considering the wide application of LTD, it is very significant to do some research about it.Firstly, the operational principle of LTD was analysed and the computational method about parameters of LTD was deduced. The design principle of LTD was introduced and simulation was carried out to analyse the effect about output parameters caused by parameters of LTD. The output parameters include the waveform of output pulse and the transmission efficiency of voltage.Secondly, the LTD device which is in use was scaled down to build up the experiment platform and then experiment was executed to analyse the effect about output parameters caused by parameters of LTD including loop inductance, magnetizing inductance, leakage inductance and distributed capacitance. Comparing the results between simulation and experiment, some differences were appeared which was caused by the circuit model used in simulation was not created according to the actual model. New simulation went on after improving the circuit model and the results were in accordance with experiment. Method about meliorate the output parameters by improve the structure of LTD was advanced and verified by experiment and simulation.Finally, experiment about modular LTD was carried out due to the arrangement of topic about long pulse. On the matched load which is 10Ω, a wonderful output pulse with rising time about 35ns, pulse width about 152ns and amplitude about 127kV was obtained. The transmission efficiency of voltage is about 92.4% and the module can work steadily with the frequency of 20Hz. In order to achieve high voltage pulse, LTD modules need to work in series and then the problem whether the switches can run synchronously is a burning question.This thesis adopts experiment and simulation to do research about LTD, and it lays the foundation for the future related work.
