The load flow calculation is one of the most commonly used tools in power system engineering. Through decades of development, the flow algorithm is more and more mature. Due to the complexity of power network, the traditional algorithm still exist some limitations. For some problems in the physical planning and operation department we encountered, satisfactory solution has not been for fully developed.Firstly, the situation of study about conventional power flow algorithms, optimal power flow model, dynamic power flow model, steady-state control power flow and dispatcher power flow has been analyzed and discussed. Secondly, on the basis of the conventional power flow algorithm, considering the impacts of static characteristics of the generator and load, a flexible power flow algorithm model based on the active power-frequency and reactive power-voltage and load steady-state characteristics has been made up. The method of setting node condition which is different from the conventional power flow about the given load and generator of basic point power has been put forward. During the course of calculating, the model cancels the node types defined in conventional power flow algorithm, overcomes the different results with choosing different slack node in the conventional power flow, and eliminates the disadvantage that a slack node takes on the imbalance power. In addition, on the basis of primary regulation, the algorithm leads in the condition of secondary frequency modulation flow and the issue of power splitting, carries out the operation of secondary frequency modulation, makes the computing result more in line with the actual power system operation.In this study, the Newton-Raphson law in the form of polar coordinate and the P-Q analysis method are used as the basic algorithm, a corresponding power flow program has been built in Matlab6.5 language. Take the 10 generators system for example, making a contrast with the common flow, and then make a comparison between primary flow and secondary flow, the flexible flow algorithm proves to be effective and correct. Finally, it also has been tested by IEEE 118 nodes system.
