Indirect matrix converter is a new topology of matrix converter with high quality input/output waveforms, high input power factor and high power density. It is very suitable to drive induction motor and realize high performance AC drives. An indirect matrix converter prototype is developed with IGBT modules as the bi-directional switches in rectifier. In this dissertation, it is introduced that the development and the function of various components of IGBT-based indirect matrix converter. The topology of conventional matrix converter and indirect matrix converter is analyzed in this paper. And the space vector modulation (SVM) strategy that is applicable to matrix converter is studied. And the principle of indirect matrix converter is analyzed.The space vector modulation of Indirect matrix converter is studied in this paper. Indirect matrix converter drive induction motor is simulated with Matlab/simulink, and the simulation waveform is analyzed. The switch commutation strategy is simulated with Maxplusâ…ˇ. And the experimental results show that the simulation is right.Two-segment PWM strategy and SVM strategy for the rectifier are addressed. A method for PWM duty cycles calculation based on voltage zero-crossing is analyzed. It is proved that two-segment PWM is an over-modulation mode of SVM. A nine-segment PWM mode for indirect matrix converter is discussed with the rectifier using SVM algorithm. The two-step commutation method based on zero current switching for the bi-directional switches in the rectifier is analyzed. And the simulation and experimental research for the commutation method is completed.The hardware of indirect matrix converter, the main circuit board, the drive & protection circuit board, the sampling circuit board, and the control circuit board are completed in detail. A novel gate drive and protection circuit for IGBT is introduced. A gate drive integrated chip of common IGBT is used with detecting the collector-emitter voltage of IGBT to realize short-circuit protection. The stability of protection is improved.The software of prototype is introduced in this dissertation. The program of CPLD and DSP is analyzed, and the main program and DSP interrupt program is analyzed. The function and approach of decoder, detention, switch state sequencer are described.Experiments demonstrate the control strategies of indirect matrix converter, and compared with two-segment PWM strategy and SVM strategy.
