Optical gyroscope is a kind of angular sensor based on Sagnac effect, it overcomes the shortcomings of traditional mechanical-electrical gyro, including fabrication complication technology and high cost, and becomes the mainstream gyro. It is a trend of how to realize the optical gyroscope with high-precision and miniaturization in future. At the same time, the slow light technology have been developed rapidly since the 20th century, the speed of light will be reduced more slowly in the dispersion medium, and controlling the speed of light has a great application significance in rotation sensors, optical delay line, optical fiber communication, and light cache. This paper focuses on the application of slow light technology in optical gyro.In this paper the theory of resonation micro optical gyro is analyzed at first including the transmission effecting of its core device-resonator. The influence of the various parameters on the performance and the optimal condition is also analyzed by software simulation; Considering the medium dispersion influence on the optical transmission speed, refraction changes caused by great medium dispersion in Sagnac effect, this paper deduces the new Sagnac effect in slow-light transmission system, which can get more Sagnac effect of frequency and phase changes, and this is helpful to improve the micro-optics gyro sensitivity through reduce the system group velocity. From analysis of the speed control system in two aspects of the structure and the material dispersion, firstly propose a resonant optical gyroscope which based on a left-handed medium dispersion characteristics of realizing the slow-light control system, compared with traditional structure it can reduce the size of the resonator with the same sensitivity. Then analyze the structure of dispersion in micro ring resonator system by the formulas derived and software simulation, emphatically analyses the double-ring structure micro ring resonator transmission characteristics, discuss the coupling resonance induced transparency phenomenon and the changes of the system group refractive index, design a kind of coupling resonator structure which have high group refractive index with low insertion loss. To sum up, this structure can be very good application in optical resonator gyro to increased sensitivity significantly.
