The superfine grinding and classifying equipment is the important equipment which could process superfine powder. The classifying equipment is the important part of the superfine equipment. And the performance of the classifying equipment has an key effect on the finished powder. The classifying process could be achieved by the professional equipment according to the different powder characteristics. The classifier which uses air as medium has a vital station. So far, there are three generations'air classifier, including the centrifugal air classifier, the cyclone air classifier and the vortex air classifier. The vortex air classifier is better than the others in classifying efficiency and classifying precision. In this paper, review the development of the vortex air classifying equipment firstly. Then introduce its application field at home and abroad, working principle and character of several vortex air classifiers, such as the MSS classifier, the ATP classifier, the ACUCUT classifier and the O-Sepa classifier, etc.In this paper, analyze the structure of FJJ-ⅢFJJ-Ⅳvortex air classifiers emphatically. The optimal designs have been used on the classifying wheel, the oriented tray, the second air inlet and the inlet mode by test and numerical value model, etc. Get the better plan and parameter after the analysis of trail data. On the basis, improve the structure of the FJJ-3.5 vortex air classifier. Then the FJJ-3.5 classifier can achieve the target planned before, such as the classifying exponent is less than 2, the max powder diameter is less than 10μm and the output increases about 40%. As a result, it proves that the capability of the FJJ-3.5 type vortex air classifier has been improved than before.
