This paper studied shelter forests of Fujian coastal area and took the TM remote sensing images in 1994 and 2005 as basic data. After interpretation of remote sensing images, the landscape dynamic change of coastal shelter forest was researched from landscape types and level through landscape analysis software Fargtats 3.3. Then the ecological security of coastal shelter forest was analyzed from landscape indexes, coastal shelter forest structure, diseases and insect pests and other aspects. The conclusions are as follow:Firstly, using two different kinds of landscape types-vegetation types and functional types-the characteristics of landscape pattern were described according to the corresponding landscape index of different years. Secondly, this paper discussed vegetation landscape type pattern changes and functional type pattern changes of coastal shelter forest respectively. Both of them are analyzed from the aspects of composition, shapes and heterogeneity. The results show that vegetation landscape fragmentation is on the rise, landscape diversity is decreasing, and it indicates that vegetation types suffer a growing influence from human factor. Thirdly, through the analyses of ecological security, the landscape pattern changes demonstrate that the general protective functions of coastal shelter forest is decreasing and the difference of farmland shelter forest network structure brings some influence to farmland production and human's lives. The functions of casuarina (casuarina equisetifolia) on the front lines of coastal shelter forest are becoming weaker because of various factors, coupled with the bad effects of diseases and insect pests to shelter forests. All those show that ecological security of coastal shelter forest is faced with great risks. Finally, the corresponding countermeasure was put forward for ecological security, which will make coastal shelter forest in a good condition and exert its greatest protective functions.
