Abstract To reuse water, comparisons was made on effluent irrigating turfgrass and tap water irrigating turfgrass. Four species including Kentucky bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, tall rescue and Zoysia grass were selected for the experiment. In addition to the sub-bioss indices including content of proline in leaf; activity of CAT and permeability Of cell membrane were studied under different growth condition. The water is secondary municipal effluent, of which there is about 80 per cent from resident The main results is shown as follows: 1. Sub-biosis of turfgrass is more under effluent irrigating than under tap water irrigating, which indicate effluent irrigation can promote the growth of roots of turfgrass in short period. There is significant interaction between water resources and turfgrass species. 2. Content of proline in the leaves of turfgrass show there is no significant differences between the two water sources. The differences of species are extremely significant under low temperature and high temperature stress but not significant under normal growth. Under low temperature, there is consistency between the amount of proline and winter hardness of turfgrass for tap water irrigation, tall fessue react more positively with effluent in-igation. Under normal growth, there is like slight difference for turfgrass species. Under heat stress, there is no significant difference between two water sources, and the content of proline in tall fescue and zoysiagrass with effluent irrigation is a little lower than tap water irrigation but perienial iyegrass and Kentucky bluegrass are otherwise. 3. The permeability of cell membrane show no significant difference between two water sources, but the differences among turfgrass species are extremely significant. There is little difference between low temperature and normal growth, that may be due to the weak low temperature stress in late autumn. Effluent irrigatin has slightly strengthen the cold resistance of all species except Kentucky bluegrass, but it still set a slight stress environment for normal growing turfgrass. Under high temperature, the results also did not show significant difference between water resouce. 4. For activity of CAT,there is no significant difference between water resources. But the results are unexplicable beyond other indices, may because the characteristic of CAT. In conclusion, there is no significant differences between water resource. Effluent can be used on turfgrass irrigation.
