Since the beginning of reformation and opening up, because of the rapid growthof economy and constant improvement of people' s living level, the consumption ofthe watermelon remarkably changed, from "Quantity Style" in 1980' s to"Quality (inside mainly) Style" in 1990' s, and to "Quality (inside and outside)style" in the beginning of 21st century.At present, in the development of watermelon production in Shanghai, the area of covered cultivation is enlarging year by year, in some areas the problems of diseases and soil secondary salinization become more and more serious, and has already influenced the sustainable development of watermelon production. Based on this, the covered-cultivation technologies of the grafted watermelon were studied, for example: the stocks' filtration and the study of disease resistance of the plants, the study of the density of plants and the amount of fertilization, the study of the fertilization technologies about the organic cultivation of the grafted watermelon, the study of the impact of organic and inorganic fertilizer on the plant growth, nutrient content of plant and the quality of fruit, and so on. It is expected all these studies will provide technique for the sustainable development of watermelon production in greenhouses in Shanghai.The results show that: (1) the special stocks of the medium and mini-size watermelon cultivated in plastic greenhouses should be "Jiangjun", " Huazhen No. 2 " " Chaofeng F1" " Chaofeng 8848 " " Xiyuzhen " and local gourd varieties, and there will be much more blight bacteria in the field after years of watermelon cultivation, so the proper stocks of the grafted watermelon should not be the wild watermelon stocks, such as "Xiyuzhen" ; (2) The suitable density of the watermelon every 667 m2 should be: Medium-size 300 and 3 branches each plant, Mini-size 500 and 3 branches each plant; (3) Based on the middling fertility, compared with the regular cultivation, the fertilizer grafting cultivation can be saved from 20% to 30% by grafting cultivation; (4) Use of 1000kg, 1250kg and 1500kg organic fertilizer every 667m2, there is no significant difference to the growth of...
