Gas exchange parameters in leaves of eleven garden species were measured in May,June,July and September,by using Li-6400 portable photosynthesis system. And the diurnal and seasonal changes of gas exchange were also analyzed. The results are as follows:(1)The diurnal changes and seasonal changes of net photosynthesis rate, transpiration rate, stomatal conductance, intercellular CO2 concentration and water use efficiency are different among eleven species.(2)The seasonal changes of gas exchange are different among eleven garden species. There are three reasons:the Amygdalus persica,Lonicera maackii,Rosa rugosa and the Hibiscus syriacus are because of the water condition. The Malus micromalus,Euonymus japonicus,Pyrus ussuriensis, and the Punica granatum are due to their ability of conserving water. And the Prunus salicina,Ziziphus jujuba and the Crataegus pinnatifida are by reason of reducing the leaf temperature by transpiration.(3)The eleven garden species can be divided into three types of species:the Hibiscus syriacus and Rosa rugosa belong to the high photosynthesis and high transpiration species, the Lonicera maackii and Punica granatum belong to the low photosynthesis and low transpiration species, the Malus micromalus belongs to the high photosynthesis and low transpiration species. (4)The leaf water content is different:the maximum of the Amygdalus persica, Prunus salicina,Ziziphus jujuba and the Hibiscus syriacus appear in July. The water content of the Malus micromalus,Euonymus japonicus,Pyrus ussuriensis,Crataegus pinnatifida and the Punica granatum decline steadily from May.The Lonicera maackii and the Rosa rugosa hold a same line.(5)The diurnal and seasonal changes of transpiration and water use efficiency in eleven species are different:the Malus micromalus and Amygdalus persica belong to the low transpiration and high water use efficiency species, the Prunus salicina and Ziziphus jujuba belong to the high transpiration and low water use efficiency species, the Rosa rugosa and the Hibiscus syriacus belong to the high transpiration and high water use efficiency species.
