The experiment was conducted to study the effects of fish meal and sodium butyrate on growth, intestinal tract development and GLP-2 secretion in weaning piglets.2×2 factoral design was used with two dietary types(corn soybean meal type with 0 or 5%fish meal) and two sodium butyrate level(0,0.3%).There are four dietary group:the control group with corn-soybean meal diet, the sodium butyrate group received the control diet with 0.3%sodium butyrate, the fish meal group received the diet with 5%fish meal, the mixture group received the diet with 0.3%sodium butyrate and 5%fish meal.A total of 44 28-day-old weaning piglets were randomly alloted acoording to litter and body weight into four group of eleven piglets per group。The experiment last 28 days. The results showed that in the first two weeks, the ileum mucosa thickness(P<0.05) was decreased with the 5%fish meal diet while the maltase activity was increased significantly(P<0.05) and the ratio of small intestinal villous height to crypt depth, the average daily gain, and the feed efficiency were tended to improved(P>0.05);0.3%sodium butyrate group decreased the diarrhea rate and crypt depth(P<0.05),improved the ratio of small intestinal villous height to crypt depth(P<0.05),improved sucrase activity(P<0.05),promoted GLP-2 secretion(P>0.05),increased ADG(P<0.01) and feed efficiency(P<0.05),decreased feed gain cost by 16.3%;the fish meal and sodium butyrate mixture group decreased ileum mucosa thickness(P<0.05),improved the ratio of small intestinal villous height to crypt depth(P<0.05),improved the ratio of small intestinal lactobacilli to colibacillus(P<0.01),improved maltase and sucrase activity(P<0.05),decreased lactase activity(P<0.05), promoted GLP-2 secretion(P>0.05),increased average daily gain(P<0.01)and feed efficiency(P<0.05),improved performance, decreased feed gain cost by 10.3%.in the second two weeks,5%fish meal,0.3%sodium butyrate and their mixture didn't improve ADG and feed efficiency(P>0.05).It was concluded that 5%fish meal had a tendency of improving performance, decreasing ileum mucosa thickness(P<0.05),improved the ratio of small intestinal villous height to crypt depth;0.3%sodium butyrate increased performance in the first two weeks, improved digestive tract structure and function in weaning piglets. But the effect of fish meal and sodium butyrate on GLP-2 secretion was not significant.
