Objective To investigate the expressions of the inhibitor genes of apoptosis, Survivin and BAG-1, in the epithelial ovarian cancers and their relationships with the histological type, grade and surgical stage of the ovarian cancers. To explore the potential roles of Survivin and BAG-1 in the development and progress of the epithelial ovarian cancers. Methods Using S-P immunohistochmistry to detect the expressions of Survivin and BAG-1 in 50 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer,20 cases of benign tumor and 15 cases of normal ovary tissue. Results 1. The positive rates of Survivin and BAG-1 in 50 cases of epithelial ovarian cancer were 72.00%,56.00%, in 20 cases of benign tumor were 20.00%,10.00%, in 15 cases of normal ovary tissue both were zero. There were significant differences between the epithelial ovarian cancers and the benign tumors. In contrast, there were no significant differences between the benign tumors and normal ovary tissues.2. The positive rate of Survivin was higher in stageⅢ,Ⅳ(93.33%) than that in stageⅠ,Ⅱ(40.00%), there was significant difference between them. Similarly, the positive rate of BAG-1 was higher in stageⅢ,Ⅳ(76.67%) than that in stageⅠ,Ⅱ(25.00%), there was also significant difference between them.3. The positive rate of Survivin was higher in less-differentiated group (92.31%) than that in well-differentiated group (50.00%), there was significant difference between them. Similarly, the positive rate of BAG-1 was higher in less-differentiated group (76.92%) than that in well-differentiated group (33.33%), there was also significant difference between them.4. The expressions of Survivin and BAG-1 had no relationships with the histological type of the epithelial ovarian cancers. Conclusions and significances1. The expressions of Survivin and BAG-1 were higher in ovarian cancers than that in benign tumors and normal ovary tissues. The results suggested that the inhibitor genes of apoptosis, Survivin and BAG-1, may play important roles in the development and progress of epithelial ovarian cancers.2. The expressions of Survivin and BAG-1 were related to the tumor grade and clinical stage (P<0.05). The results suggested that Survivin and BAG-1 may contribute to invasion and prognosis of the ovarian cancers.3. The expressions of Survivin and BAG-1 were not related to the histological type of the ovarian cancers.4. Survivin and BAG-1 may be new targets in the treatment of the epithelial ovarian cancers.
