ObjectiveThe normal reference of thickness of the length of corpus callosum was measured on MR images in the normal fetus with gestational age of 28 to 40 weeks. Statistical methods were used to study the normal fetal corpus callosum length and biparietal diameters (BPD) and the linear relationship between the gestational age. The corpus callosum between normal fetus and the fetus with the dilation of lateral ventricles was compared and treated with between numerical statistics.Materials and MethodesMR images of 457 pregnant women were collected from September 2008 to December 2009 in our hospital. All pregnant women were voluntarily examined with MRI after found or suspected fetal brain abnormalities by the prenatal ultrasound examination. These women were 23-41 years old, mean age was 26.8 years. The gestation weeks were from 28 to 40. All cases were scanned with Siemens Magnetom Sonata Maestro Class 1.5T superconducting MR scanner, T1WI with FLASH sequence and T2WI with HASTE sequence. All fetal images were magnificated in the PASS and then measured by two experienced MRI physicians respectively. The length and the thickness of the corpus callosum of fetuses were measured in the sagittal images of fetal brains. Biparietal diameter was measured in the axis images with through thalamus of fetal brains. All data were collected twice in different times by the same doctor. Statistical error analysis was done with all data in order to ensure accuracy. The cases were divided into two groups:the normal fetuses and fetuses with mild lateral ventricle expansion(10-15mm), according to the width of lateral ventricle. ResultsNumerical analysis of variability was done with the data measured by the two doctors. SPSS12.0 software was used to do statistical analysis, including matcht-test and regression analysis. The results were statistically meaningful when P< 0.05.Finally the length and the thickness of the corpus callosum of the two groups were filed according to pregnant weeks. The linear relationship between the corpus callosum length of normal fetuses and the gestational age, Biparietal diameter analyzed. The data of mild lateral ventricle broadens group were listed and analysised. The influence of mild lateral ventricle broadens to the length and the thickness of the corpus callosum was observed.Conclusion1. Length of corpus callosum body formed a quadratic curve with the gestational age, which was Y=-0.0648X2+4.3032X-59.372, Y for the length of the corpus callosum, X for the gestational age. The thickness also formed a quadratic curve with the gestational age, which was Y=-0.0022X2+0.2352X-1.5273, Y for the thickness of the corpus callosum, X for the gestational age.2. Through the statistical analysis, the corpus callosum length and the Biparietal diameter was linear positive correlation, linear equation was y= 1.988x+4.012.3. The mild lateral ventricle broaden did not affect the growth of corpus callosum. The data of the two groups were not statistically different.
