Study Objective:To investigate the relationship between the plasma melatonin levels and Arousal index,Apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and the lowest oxygen saturation in the patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea Hypopnea Syndrome (OSAHS); To investigate the value of the plasma melatonin levels in the assessment of daytime sleepiness. Methods: In total, 70 patients with OSAHS(11mild,14moderate,19severe, 26exterimely severe) and 17 controls were studied with Polysomnography (PSG) from 2007 to 2009 in our sleep laboratory. And 17 controls include normal control group (11 person) and primary snoring control group (6 person) according to the results of PSG and whether snoring. Plasma melatonin levels were determined at 06:00(AM) in patients and controls using the euzymelinked immunosorbent assay method.Results:â—‹1 OSAHS patients compared with control group, plasma melatonin levels were significantly elevated (P<0.05);â—‹2 Studies have shown that plasma melatonin levels were positively correlated with Arousal index and AHI values, and were negatively correlated with the lowest oxygen saturation(P<0.05);â‘¢Studies have shown that plasma melatonin levels were positively correlated with ESS score, but have no significance(P>0.05).Conclusions: The plasma melatonin levels in OSAHS patients are elevated, and they are closely related with the degree of OSAHS; the plasma melatonin levels may have important value in the assessment of daytime sleepiness in patients. |
