Objective: To study DNA damage background value of residents in the island with flow cytometer assay .Method: The lymphocytes were obtained from 175 cases healthy residents inthe island of non-occupational exposure to hazardous factors. Flow cytometer ( FCM ) assay was used to detect DNA damage. Results: The difference of geometric mean fluorescence intensity betweendifferent gender groups was significant(p<0.05). The difference of geometric mean fluorescence intensity in different age groups was significant(p<0.05). The difference of geometric mean fluorescence intensity in different drinking history groups was significant(p<0.05). The difference of DNA damage and geometric mean fluorescence intensity in different smoking history groups was not significant(p>0.05). Positive correlations were showed between DNA damage, geometric mean fluorescence intensity and drinking history of residents. Conclusions: To study DNA damage background value of residents in theisland with flow cytometer assay, the difference of DNA damage background value in different gender groups,in different age groups,in different drinking history groups were significant(p<0.05).
