Background and Purpose Cerebral arteriovenous malformation (AVM) is a common vascular disease remain among the most difficult neurosurgical disease to treat in neurosurgery. Currently the treatment strategy of arteriovenous malformations is still under discussion. Surgery is the best generally accepted treatment for AVM. This article aim to discuss the usefulness of neuronavigation system in asisting removal of cerebral arteriovenous malformation and summarize the operation experience of cerebral arteriovenous malformation.Materials and Methods The author retrospectivly studied 63 intralcranial AVM cases of Neurosurgery department of The first Affiliated hostpital of ShanTou University Medical Colledge from year 2005 to year 2009,all cases were divided into two groups,24 cases using neuronavigation device in microsurgery were treated as navigation group , the other 27 cases simply performed microsurgery as control group(microsurgery group). The follow-up period was 3 months after the date of discharge, consult all patients'case histories, record all patients'name, sex, age, therapeutic process and their operation records, use Modified Rankin Score to evaluate all the patients'recovery after discharge. Results The average amount of bleeding, residual AVM tissue and modified rankin score between navigation group and the mirosurgery group is of significance in statistics science,(T-Test,P<0.05),and the operation time of two group have showed no significant difference. The average amount of bleeding was correlated with modified Rankin score (Correlation coefficient=0.365,P=0.008).Conclusions The neuronavigation device is of great value in assisting microsurgical resection of intracranial arteriovenous malformations,it can precisely mark the feeding arteries, draining veins and nidius of AVMs, significantly reduce blood loss by processing the feeding arteries quickly, increase the total removal rate of AVM lesion, make excision of AVM easier, improve the prognosis of intracranial arteriovenous malformations patients.
