The La-Li musical instrument of Bai Ku Yao, as a carrier of culture, is one of south national minority's intangible cultural heritage. It is a significant cultural signs and symbols of the Bai Ku Yao with a long history, and plays an important role in the real world. Via the investigation of Huaili villages of Lihu town in Nandan county of Guangxi, the author surveys comprehensively about the Bai Ku Yao's La-Li musical instrument's manufacture, the rehearsal, the melody, the applied occasions and the cultural connotation, and determines that the La-Li is the product of the original ecological environment and belongs to the primitive art in"quasi-art"phase of the typical national musical instrument. Compared with bamboo reed instruments in a number of ethnic minorities in southern China, La-Li musical instrument has a certain vibration pronunciation similarities. They have the same origin but different development periods. Through promulgating the Bai Ku Yao's La-Li and its various aspects of cultural practices, it comes down to that music is the national minority life's reflection which is simple and quiet, and the minority is content with their own entertainment. It also shows that it is the carrier of Bai Ku Yao's culture and national spirit, and has the social functions of entertainment, the reposing spirit, transmitting techniques, sending affection, the demonstration nationality individuality and the demand. It supplies the fresh reference fossil, which we can refer to, for the exposition art's essence, the artistic origin and important academic basic theories. We also observed that, as an minority intangible cultural heritage, La-Li and its culture are faced with the social modernization. Adaptable changes of cultural connotation and social function also threatens La-li. It faces the challenge of original ecological environment's vanishing, which causes the traditional culture's vanishing. In this regard, we believe that: La-Li and its culture's compatible changes to the market economy is the premise of the heritage's continuity. Simultaneously, it needs the administration's protection and investment, and the attention of all the people in this nation to the importance of intangible cultural heritage. If concrete measures and actions are to be taken, the culture of La-Li can develop and continue.
