A Hermeneutic Approach Toward Translator's Subjectivity

In a broad view, hermeneutics is defined as the science and methodology of interpreting texts, and the core concepts, i.e. "prejudice", "effective history consciousness", "fusion of horizons", exerts great effects on translation, the thesis studys this kind of philosophy in detail as the theoretical basis for the further study on the translator's subjectivity.In traditional translation studies, the translator has always been in an ignored and marginalized position, in this sense, his or her subjective dynamics has not obtained its deserved recognition, and they were regarded to follow after the author and the source text like a totally invisible man. Thanks to the recent discussion and exploration in translation study on the translator'subjective status, the study on the translator's subjectivity has become a heated topic in the translation circle, this thesis will comply with this trend to do the study on the translator's subjectivity through its three main forms of embodiment i.e. ""cultural mistranslation", "creative treason", "inter-subjectivity" on the basis of Hermeneutic theory.For another, Chinese Martial arts fiction is a particular genre in Chinese classical literature, the cultural particularities and the corresponding difficulties in translation have made many western readers and translators flinch, thereby the research on Chinese martial arts translation has been rarely done by scholars, thus it requires us to do the deep exploration on this brand new topic.Therefore, in case study, we mainly focus on the exact examples quoted from John Minford'The Deer and the Cauldron, which is the translation version of Louis Cha's Lu Ding Ji(《鹿鼎记》), then in conclusion chapter, we summarize that translation is never the the simple reduplication of the original meaning, but always a creative activity and process, thus no doubt the translator's subjectivity plays a decisive role in translation process.
