A Kind Of Combination In The Visual Threshold Of Macintyre's Virtue Ethics

Alasdair Macintyre is one of the most important philosophers and ethicists in the contemporary anglo-american world.His virtue ethics have been broadly concerned and hotly discussed in the field of moral philosophy as well as political philosophy.Though his remarkable work《After Virtue》was published in the 1980s,it also has its great influence nowadays,which attracts my attention to this subject.It's helpful to seize the clue of his thinking and understand the outline of his thought for the study of virtue ethics.On the basis of reading the original work and the references,I aim to rebuild the structure of his thinking,draw the outline of his thought,and hold the relationship of the main logical points.In this process,I find that a kind of teleology has impressed me a lot,so I want to discuss the self of modernity and try to deal with the dilemma of it in the visual threshold of Macintyre's virtue ethics which includes the teleology.The dilemma of the self of modernity is due to its materialization in my opinion.The self of modernity has been gradually materialized and mechanized as the process of the instrumental rationality'expanding and the value rationality's shrinking since the Enlightenment.Losing the dimension of value,the unbalanced self of modernity has produced quite a lot of moral problems in the modern west.In his later papers,he illuminated the dependence and weakness of human being from the angle of human's fundamental social value dimension on the biological basis,which has provided a perfect value dimension in my view.In this paper,I plan to combine the unbalanced self of modernity and a sort of value dimension in the visual threshold of Macintyre's virtue ethics.This is a moral mode inherently including a sort of teleology,which consists of the independence,autonomy,and creativity of the self of modernity and the value dimension of human,gives a unique life narrative to everyone and an objective foundation of moral judgment.It aims to provide a possible method in response to the ethical dilemma of the modern west.
