Chi Li is a representative writer of new realism. She gains literary fame for her lifetrilogy----Problem-full Life, Out Of Love, The birth of The Sun. These works stirred up a lot of ofexcitement for their faithful description of real life and they also earn Chi's high position inliterature. What we want to emphasize is that Chi's works not only display the rich content ofcommon people culture, but also show the obvious, continuing thinking of observed motherconsciousness. It is this thing that the modern writers generally lack. For this reason, we shall paymore attention to Chi's work.According to the different expression of maternal image and the concrete texts, this papershows a deep analysis of Chi's secularized maternal image as well as modern maternal imageintegrating tradition and modernity. We also consult the contemporary cultural thought and writer'svalue. The article lays stress on discussing the innate character and spiritual origin of maternalimage in novel creation. This paper is divided into three chapters. Chapter one mainly describesthe secularized maternal image in Chi Li's novel. On the basis of the maternal image in Chineseliterary works, the secularized maternal image as well as the maternal image in mother-daughterconflict are discussed. Chapter two is about the new maternal image, that means the image whohas integrated tradition and modernity. In chapter three, the observed mother consciousness andcultural implication are digged deep through writer's life experience, the design of maternity firstand feminine consciousness represented by maternity.According to her own life experience and creative attitude, Chi Li describes the real motherwho has defects of her own virtues through the dialectical thinking. Contrary to the god maternalimage in literary works, Chi stands for common people's view and faithfully expresses mother'sreal life. At the same time of breaking the maternal mystique, she still holds a good hope for idealmaternity and keeps looking for it. She detests that mother's role is just bearing child while speakshighly about freely creating life. She observes the maternity in mother-daughter conflict anddiscusses the role trait of mother. Besides the above advantages, this kind of maternalconsciousness has its own limitations because of writer's own limited living environment and lifeexperience.
