Italian song of the 17th and 18th centuries constitute the most valuable treasure of the human inheritance of vocality. Based on my understanding and experiences of the songs, this article has discussed the coverage, content of the theme, characteristics of the style, the purpose of which is to enhance and deepen our understanding of the musical works because you can not truly appreciate something before you have understood it.The compositions of vocality had been arranged and published by the end of the 19th century or earlier. And they have been utilized as teaching samples for musical college students in the west ever since. It is well recognized that learning and singing these songs is an indispensable and absolutely necessary course for any learner of vocality. They have be treated in the same way and given as much importance in Chinese musical colleges. But the arrangement of the songs teaching is not regular enough, and the research, analysis and mastering of the songs is far away from being substantial. Therefore, it is significant and helpful in promoting our understanding, singing and teaching of these songs and in improving us music majors'activities that we make a further research of the historical context, characteristics of the style, the requirements and art realm of the songs.
