In the process of teaching development, five professional groups, including "Senior Faculty Advisors" have been set up for the purpose of improving teachers'qualities, revitalizing resource of superior teachers, bringing their talent into full play, and paving a way for the further professional development of those superior teachers by Shanghai Putuo Education Bureau. "Senior Faculty Advisors" aims at individual teaching instruction, and does it work well? What effect does it have? What problem does it have? How to solve the problem? All of the questions above need to be concerned. In this case study, the author uses a variety of research methods like reading documents, investigating, analyzing texts, and studying cases to reach the goal. After studying education policy intensively, the author interviews some senior faculty advisors, instructed teachers, school administrators, researchers and administrators of Putuo Educational College and surveys 118 senior faculty advisors,60 instructed teachers by questionnaire. The analysis focuses on instructional objects, time, locations, methods, contents and degree of satisfaction. It expects to find successful experience, cause of some problems, and to give some pertinent measures. The study shows the birth of "Senior Faculty Advisors" is a great exploration of improving teachers'qualities and this training pattern is accepted by almost every teacher because it is a win-win project to both sides. Meanwhile, the study also finds some confusion of those advisors and those being advised. Besides, there is a great diversity of instruction quality and quantity. According to further investigation and analysis, the cause of the above problem may vary:those advisors are overburdened and lack of theoretical knowledge; the motive force of those being advised haven't been stimulated effectively; teaching resources haven't been entirely shared. On the basis of careful analysis, the author gives some relevant measures. School leaders and education administrators should set up free working condition for those advisors. Advisors need to enhance self-study and form a group to strengthen their professional capabilities. The administration should promote training, resource sharing, evaluation, and encouragement. Also, self-development of the faculty ought to be urged.
