On Approaches Of The Linking Of English Teaching Between Rural Junior And Senior Middle School

This paper proposes that effective English teaching's linking between rural junior and senior middle schools should be enhanced in ordinary rural senior middle schools, based on the facts that the students' foundation of English learning is weak, the effect and efficiency of English teaching is low, and the quality of English teaching falls behind in these senior middle schools. This paper also presents the concrete teaching contents, approaches and procedures through carrying out a relevant project in Grade One of a rural senior middle school.This paper puts emphasis on the approaches of the linking of English teaching. Firstly, help students master the IPA quickly by the way of IPA Asymmetrical Arrangement to read new words freely, then classify all the words learned in junior middle school by the same stresses to review these words and acquire the methods to memorize new words in senior middle school. Secondly, well acquaint five key structures of simple English sentences to consolidate these key structures and lay a solid foundation of learning complex English sentence patterns. It is carried out by transformation of sentences, making sentences or translation from English to Chinese or vice versa. Thirdly, take full advantage of Everyday English to help students intensify these simple English structures, enrich their English vocabulary and develop English-thinking ability. Fourthly, choose appropriate additional teaching materials, such as New Concept English Book 2, to facilitate the students'reading comprehension and give consideration to both advancing knowledge and improving ability. Fifthly, read various of simplified famous English books, such as Bookworm series of Oxford Edition, to help students find the happiness in English reading, to stimulate their interests and potentialities in English reading, so as to form a better atmosphere of reading and learning English and to achieve the confidence of learning English well, then to promote students'comprehensive ability in utilizing English. Sixthly, the teaching of text books in senior middle school, such as Oxford Edition Advance with English, should be performed to the full while carrying out the above-mentioned steps, so as to improve students'3-D goals, that is to say, pay attention to enrich students knowledge and improve their ability in language learning, to foster and improve students'learning methods, to cultivate students'emotion, attitude and values.Besides the approaches and contents during the process of English teaching linking, the research should take it into consideration to train many kinds of abilities and alternate the emphasis according to time and circumstances. In a word, the research and application should be from simplest to more complex, from easy to difficult, and should be put closely to students'knowledge structure; it should lay emphasis on improving students'standard and ability of utilizing English and gradually forming the habit of English thinking; it should improve the students'reading comprehension and reading speed of English text; it should make students continuously experience the happiness of success and enhance their confidence and interest in English learning.So the core issue of the empirical study in this paper is to probe how to make senior middle schools'English teaching linked with junior middle schools', based on the teaching practice of rural ordinary senior middle schools, and how to solve the problems of students'poor foundation and little interest in English learning by the way of linking, so as to improve the English teaching quality of rural ordinary senior middle schools and to promote the new innovation of curriculum carried out smoothly in rural ordinary senior middle schools.The result of the teaching linking's research and practice in my school is significantly effective, which has highly promoted the students' English learning and improved the effect and efficiency of English teaching. So the paper maintains that English teaching's linking between rural junior and senior middle schools is feasible and necessary.
