Applying information technology to transform traditional agriculture is the trend of contemporary agricultural development. It is the extensive application of agriculture information technology that will bring a new revolution for agricultural science and technology in 21st century. Constructing crop production potential system to calculate crop potential and analyze the spatial distribution rule will provide technical support for crop potential mining and the building of core food area, which has important practical significance to improve the security of national food production.Currently, view of the complex and decentralized management of farmland environmental information and the poor expansibility of crop potential productivity model system, the paper studied crop production potential combined with farmland environmental information based on crop production potential evaluation process, took wheat as an example, followed the incremental software engineering model, used software component technique to couple model subsystem with GIS loosely, and used VS.NET 2005, SuperMap GIS 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 to construct crop production potential system, which realizes the systematization and automatization of crop potential evaluation from county to province at windows, and provides technical support and ADM(Aid in Decision Making) for crop production management, potential mining and dominant zoning at county scale.The paper s contents and innovations include:(1) combining with farm environmental information management, and using C/S and B/S pattern to design system structure to realize the organic management of provincial and county levels. It is submitting the farm environment information (weather, soil, crop resources, etc.) and social production information (socio-economic level, social production conditions and the level of social production, etc.) from county end to province end that improved the timeliness and integrity and solved the non-uniform of data format and decentralized management of crop production information.(2) using the new ways of incremental models of software engineering and OMT(Object-oriented Modeling Technology) to effectively mine the user roles and build the system object model, dynamic model and functional model to improve the system s security, which consummated system demand and improved system structure.(3) introducing of socio-economic factors and putting forward a set of suitable crop production potential model for Henan Province based on the soil potential model to improve the rationality and accuracy of the calculation results.(4) using software component technology to integrate crop production potential subcomponents to realize the crop production potential model subsystem, which provided component reuse for system development, effectively reduced the coupling between the potential model and system, and strengthened scalability and maintainability of the system.
