Ad Hoc network is a group of mobile terminals with wireless transmission and reception which comprise a multi-hop temporary autonomous system. Mobile terminals in the network possess the functions of routing and packet forwarding, which can connect an arbitrary wireless network topology.According to the different drive modes of Ad Hoc network routing protocols, it is divided into table-driven routing protocols and on-demand routing protocols, AODV routing protocol of on-demand source routing protocols was chosen in this thesis, through the analysis and improvement of the AODV local repair algorithm's characteristics, an improved routing protocol AODV local repair algorithm is formed. In the improved AODV algorithm, not only the next and the previous hop nodes'IP address are saved by RREQ and RREP, but also the next two-hop and the previous two-hop nodes'IP address, the routing table entries also add the next two-hop node's address. As the LOCAL scope of the improved AODV protocol is smaller, so in theory, the performance of network will be improved.NS-3 is elected as the network simulation tool for this thesis, and it absorbs the successful technology and experience of NS-2, GTNetS, yans and so on. NS-3 is a discrete-event network simulator for Internet systems, targeted primarily for research and educational use. NS-3 is free software, licensed under the GNU GPLv2 license, and is publicly available for research, development, and use.In this paper, network simulation tool NS-3 is adopted to built Ad Hoc network, and implement writing and debugging code of the improved AODV routing protocol, compared the results of the AODV local repair algorithm and the improved one under different network environment, the improved one's performances are better than the traditional one, which are Rate of successfully received data, ETE delay of data transmission, the number of packets within the buffer, the number of packets discarded.
