This paper presents the secular and the religious lives of the people who live in Karizkuli Matniyazkari village, Dikan Township, Shanshan County in Xinjiang Uyghur autonomous region, this paper mainly focuse on the inheritance and continuity of Uyghur traditional cultureAuthor fouse on the structure and function of Jama'at(a kind of religious community).Beside ethnological fieldwork method,participant observation ampact and function of Jamd'at on the secular and religious life of the rural Uyghur community, basically providing perspectives and specific case for academic reaserch to study the rural community and culture of the Uyghur.This paper includes three aspects:Firstly, aiming to explain the social, historical and present situation of the place,writer provides analytical background for the study.The fieldwork place has been introduecd.Besides,author also give a brief introduction of the Uygur ethnic origins,the overwive of Shanshan County,ecological environment, clan and family, population structure, customs, education and economic situations of Matniyazkari village.Secondly, the author describes and analyzes the organization and structure of Jam a'at in rural Uyghur community,also do some research on realistic problems such as the formation conditions of Jamd'at,the religion and mosque management system which includes the participation of Jamd'at, the relationship between the Jamd'at culture management in rural community and the state administrative management.Finally, this paper describes and analyzes the functions of Jamd'at in Uighur individual's entire life and ceremonial procedure. The first part mainly talks about Jam a'at's functions on rites of life, for instance, naming ceremony, circumcision, wedding, funeral ceremony. In the second part the author discusses its functions on religious obligation of Islam, that is prayer, worship,fast, lesson, hajj. At last the author analyzes Jama 'at's functions on the village's public affairs, mainly including cultural inheritance of Uyghur, social interaction between villages, civil disputes, poverty alleviation, village culture constructing and social control. The author finally comes into conclusion that the organization of Jama'at plays an unnegligible and irreplaceable role in every rural Uygur's secular and religious life,has great importance in inheriting and promoting Uyghur culture.This paper argues that villagers who live in the rural Jama'at are holding traditional and conservative altitude in their ideology,and generally there is a certain degree of inadaptation in the process of adapting and accepting culture revolution which is affected by modernization and even vigilant.The people generally opposite and boycott towards culture revolution comparing to people who live in the city. And the reason, impact and mediation of this problem has great value for academic further study.
