Comparative Study On The City Sustainable Land Use Between Wuhan And Hong Kong

Land use is the core of human-land relationship. The contradictions between human and land are the biggest interest conflict of human and environment. Nowadays, sustainable development has been put forward, so that people can re-examine the human-land conflict and land use relationship as well as the sustainable use of it. As the old saying goes, we should pay attention to food indemnification as well as economic development. Through the sustainable land use, we can make a good deal with the various relationships of proportion and make intensive use while protecting the precious land resource. The city of Wuhan has a fast speed of urban growth and a wide area of construction land. Meanwhile, and a lot of cultivated land resources have been wasted. Therefore, it is necessary for us to study on the issue of sustainable land use of the city.The paper has made research of Wuhan and Hong Kong as well as comparison between two cities. Firstly, basing on the different levels of development and different backgrounds, it analyzed the environment character and the change in the land use. Secondly, it studied on the developing difference between the two cities through human driving forces in the change of land use. Finally, it made comparative analysis on the problems of sustainable land use in Wuhan and Hong Kong, and pointed out that the experience and inspiration of the urban growth management of Hong Kong is meaningful to Wuhan. Wuhan had its advantage on land space, while Hong Kong had an obvious restriction on it; the population of Hong Kong is abundant while the land is deficient. But through the sustainable use management, Hong Kong has been in a state of intensive utilization, but Wuhan has been in an extensive developing mode. Through the comparison in the paper, we can get a clear idea about the difference of sustainable land use of the two cities, find out how to be sustainable in land use. The methods of being sustainable land use are implementing growth management, regulating the land recourse market, planning comprehensively and scientifically, using land in an intensive pattern, mining the internal potential and focusing on sustainable social and environmental factors.
