The steel and iron industry, one of pillars of national economy, is all important to the national economy and the people's livelihood. Under the circumstances of market competition, the enterprises have reached an agreement that they should make use of ERP to overcome disadvantages and improve the level of enterprise management.The competition era of Chinese steel industry is coming. The Chinese steel industry must transform from big to strong instead of pursuing the growth of output blindly. During this process, corporate restructuring and adjustment of product can not do without information technology. The effect is not good, even adds to the enterprises' burden, although the senior policy makers of some steel enterprises have introduced the ERP system. Therefore, all steel enterprises must face how to put ERP come into practice successfully. The paper introduces the implementation of ERP about some major steel enterprises respectively and makes further discussion and analysis.The paper analyses the issue on how to implement ERP successfully step by step, and introduces ERP briefly on the basis of concept, principle and function of ERP by reviewing the history of ERP. Combining with the characteristics of steel enterprises, the paper puts forward procedures of ERP life cycle and analyses the critical reasons whether implementation of ERP is successful or not.TISCO has been developed by taking in ERP. The main industry has implemented ERP completely, which is successful for TISCO. After analyzing the problems TISCO met during the process of implementing ERP, the paper analyses unsatisfactory situations by using the ERP theory again. Finally, the paper reaches a conclusion about successful methods and steps which should be used by steel enterprises, including management system, support system and successful steps, which involves training, software, data preparation and optimization and restructuring of processes. Among the above feathers, the success of any factor and link is necessary rather than sufficient to implement ERP successfully, while lack of any factor may result in the failure of implementing ERP system.
