China has maintained high speed GDP growth for more than 20 years. Now, GDP per capita has exceeded USD 2000. For some more developed cities, Shanghai for example, has exceeded USD 8000 in the year of 2007. Under such circumstances, lots of aspects of the society is taking changes along with the economic development. Among them, changes on consumption are an important one. At beginning, it is the quantity changes and then the quality and then the structure.Today's luxury is tomorrow's necessary. Studying on today's luxury, we can say, is studying on the consumption trend. It is the economic realities of today's economic life that China's high-end customers are paying more attention to the good's quality and the escalation of Chinese consumption structure, which is a great demand. How to satisfy this potential demand? It relies on the supply sideā€”the development of luxury industry. This paper analyzes the luxury industry's structure, corporation behavior and the performance and then draws the following conclusions: today's market structure is a n oligarch market, The Three Big Group accounts for one third of the world total market; the industry's entrance barrier is high; brand's M&A is a trend in this industry; the average profit rate is higher than the average social profit rate. Next, this paper analyzes the demand on luxury goods in China, which is the cornerstone of the industry's development. At the same time, the paper also discusses the relationship between the creative industry and the luxury industry, as well as the retail and the luxury industry. The creative industry and the luxury industry are mutually promoted. The luxury goods are mainly personal consumption goods and most of them are materials, not spiritual, therefore, the retail becomes the end of the luxury industry. Some luxury companies are retailers at the same time. Controlling the end of the industry can facilitate the image and culture transmission of the brands. So, the development degree and the scale of the two industries have deep connections with the development of the luxury industry.
