Gms Trade Development To Promote Economic Growth In Yunnan

The problem about foreign trade promoting economic growth has long been a major issue for each country's economists and government. The study on this issue dates back to classic economic schools, but then it is concerned about the functions and ways of foreign trade in the economic growth of different countries on a country basis. However, a country's foreign trade is based on the foreign trade of different areas in this country. A country's comparative advantage resulting from international division and foreign trade and its implementation model depend on regional competitive edge arising from resource endowments, technological sophistication and cost advantages of different regions in a country. Therefore, the economic growth idea of international trade theories can be applied both to macroecnomic development analysis and to regional economic practices of different areas within a country.From 1990s of last century, the process of economic globalization and regional intergration has been speeded up. Yunnan, located in the southwest of China, which was connected with southeast Asian countries, has been a forthgoer of regional economic cooperation of China because of its special geographical environment. From 1992, as the main body and foreland of China to participate in Lancang-Mekong Subregion Economic Cooperation, Yunnan has participated in Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS for short) economic cooperation which was led by Asian Development Bank and some other economic cooperation mechanism. And the bilateral trade relationship between GMS countries and Yunnan entered into an overall developmental step. Although the trade value between GMS countries and Yunnan increased fastly, there were also some problems in the bilateral trade. Thus, it is of great significance to improve the bilateral trade so as to promote the economic growth and optimize the industry structure of Yunnan. Based on the theory of foreign trade promoting economic growth, this thesis analyses the roles GMS trade plays in promoting Yunnan's economic growth, and the peoblems and reasons in GMS trade promoting Yunnan's economic growth. Then it tries to find out the countermeasure of utilizing foreign trade to promote Yunnan's economic growth under the GMS cooperation system. This thesis is divided into 6 chapters. Among them, the first chapter is about the basic theories of foreign trade promoting economic growth and it introduces the development trends and actuality of the theory and demonstration research. Chapter two analyses the background for Yunnan participating in GMS trade cooparation and it introduces the actuality of the trade cooperation between GMS countries and Yunnan and the reasons for Yunnan to participate in this cooperation system. Chapter three analyses the effect of Yunnan participating in GMS cooparation and how did it promote the economic growth and industry structure upgrade. Chapter four analyses the problems and reasons that embarrass Yunnan and GMS countries's trade development. Chapter five brings forward the countermeasures of how to improve the GMS trade cooperation development and promote the economic growth of Yunnan. And the last chapter is the conclusion of this thesis.
