Environmental Pollution And Economic Growth Relationship In Chongqing Municipality Empirical Research

Today environment problem is an important topic which the whole world focuses on and need to be solved. There are contradictions between the economic growth and the environment in our country. As a traditional heavy industry base, Chongqing has grown rapidly in economics, especially after it became the directly governed city. On one hand, the economic growth promoted the development of all aspects in this fried, and expedited the industrialized course. On the other hand, the rapid increase of polluting material has brought pressure to the environment in Chongqing, and became a barrier to carry out the sustainable development strategy in Chongqing. So, how to solve the environment problem on the base of economic growth turns to be the focal point of the sustainable development in Chongqing.Diversified environment pollution will appear with the economic growth. But we should analyze that whether economic growth necessarily courses the aggravator of environment pollution, according to the practical situation in the local place. This paper uses the data of Chongqing in the near 17 years to analyze the relationship between environment pollution and economic growth there.First, with the qualitative analysis of the current situation of economic growth and environment pollution, we find that there indeed exit some environment problems in Chongqing while economic grow rapidly.Second, borrowing ideas from related research theory and method at home and abroad, we use the data of environment pollution and economic growth in Chongqing to examine the relationship between them. The result shows that, there are extended, steady and balanced relationships between the environment pollution variable and economic growth variable. And in short-term, the environment pollution is influenced by the economic growth and itself. Based on this, we examine the Kuznets curve in Chongqing. It indicate that, there are different stages in the growth of the relationship between most environment pollution variable and economic growth variable. Now, most environment pollution variable and economic growth variable are in the stage of negative influence. In this stage, the environment pollution subsidizes gradually with the growth of economics, which is because of all kinds of environment protecting measures have been carried out and worked. So that, we should take more step to improve the quality of environment more quickly and better.In the last, according to the situation of Chongqing, we made recommendations to the improvement of environment and economic in Chongqing, such as cyclic development, readjusting industrial structure, improving environmental construction and so on.
